Iideyama Shrine

...In a broad sense, it refers to the Iide Mountains, and in a narrow sense, it refers to a mountain (2,105m) on the border of Niigata, Yamagata, and Fukushima prefectures that has been the object of worship since ancient times. Most of the mountain area belongs to both Niigata and Yamagata prefectures, but the grounds of Iideyama Shrine at the summit and the mountain trail that runs along the ridge from Mikunidake in the south are in Fukushima prefecture. This reflects the fact that the history of this mountain has been centered around religious climbing at Ichinoheguchi in the Aizu domain, and the circumstances of the decision were decided after a court battle between 1878 and 1917.
