...Hydraulically, the lake is called Chud-Pskov Lake because it is a system of three adjacent lakes. Historically, Lake Chud was called Lake Gdov and Lake Peipsi. The southernmost (upper reaches) is Lake Pskov (710 km2), followed by Lake Tyoploe (170 km2), and the northernmost Lake Chud (2,700 km2), from which the Narva River flows out and empties into the Gulf of Finland (the innermost part of the Baltic Sea). *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Peipsi" are listed below.
