[Born] 1207 [Died] 1298 A Rinzai sect monk from the Kamakura period. He entered Song China in 1249 and returned to Japan in 1249. He founded Kokoku-ji Temple in Yura, Kishu, Zenrin-ji Temple and Myoko-ji Temple in Kyoto. His posthumous name was Hotō Kokushi. According to the legends of the Fuke sect in the Kyotaku Denki Kokuji Kai (1795) and other sources, he is said to have brought the Fuke sect and the Fuke shakuhachi from Song, but this is doubtful.
