Willehalm

...The Wartburg Song Contest, in which Wolfram played an active role at this court, was the creation of a later poet, but Wolfram probably met Walter von der Vogelweide, the greatest lyric poet of the Middle Ages. His works include three epics and eight lyric poems, among which his masterpiece, Partifal (written around 1200-10), is a magnificent knightly epic poem that depicts the spiritual development of a simple and naive man who, through repeated adventures and mistakes, reaches the throne of the Holy Grail King, and his unfinished epic poem Willehalm (written around 1212-20), is a free adaptation of a French epic poem of valor commissioned by Landgrave Herman, which praises Christian tolerance, philanthropy, and marital love through the battle between Christian knights and the pagan Saracens. The Titurel, a fragment of roughly the same date, is the story of Minne (the love) of Signe, a character in Partifal, and is an attempt to adopt the stanzas of heroic epic poetry (Titurel stanzas).
