...a tube between the tympanic cavity of the middle ear and the side wall of the upper part of the pharynx. Its inner surface is covered with mucous membrane, and the upper part near the tympanic cavity is inside the bone, while the lower part near the pharynx is surrounded by cartilage. This tube is also called the trumpet-shaped tube because it spreads downward after leaving the bone. It is also called the Eustachian tube because B. Eustachian first wrote about it in 1563. In Japan, the name is often pronounced in German as the Oistachio tube, and it is also called the European tube by adding the character 〈Eu〉 to the oiEu.
