The dbu med style includes the cursive tshugs ring, tshugs thung, tshugs ma 'khyugs, and dpe yig styles, as well as the cursive 'khyug yig. dbu med is the basic style used primarily in traditional woodblock printing of Buddhist scriptures and other texts, and in various modern letterpress printing, tshugs ring is used for calligraphy, tshugs and tshugs ma 'khyugs are used for official documents and formal letters, dpe yig is used for copying sutras, and dbu med is used for most everyday writing, such as letters, memos, and records.
