...It is found in the temperate to subarctic lower mountain areas of Hokkaido and Honshu, and is often used as a garden tree in Hokkaido. (2) Acer mono Maxim. (painted maple) (illustration) A maple found over a wide area in eastern Siberia, Sakhalin, northeastern China, Korea, and Japan. Its leaves are palmately divided into 3 to 9 lobes, but lack sawtooth. It grows to a height of 25 to 30 m and a diameter of 1 m.
