An old town in Watarai County, located in the Ise Plain in the central-eastern part of Mie Prefecture. The main settlement once flourished as a ferry crossing over the Miyagawa River on the Sangu Highway, and the Sangu Line runs through it. There are textile factories of various sizes, and the town also produces rice, vegetables, melons, and other produce. It is the home of Ise Takuan (pickled radish). In January 2006, it was incorporated into Ise City along with Futami Town and Misono Village in Watarai County. 11.56 km2 . Population: 18,557 (2003).
