In the first half of the 18th century, the German Jakob Christof Le Blon (1667-1741) succeeded in color-printing paintings by applying Newton's three primary color principles to mezzotint printing, and the French Jacques-Fabien Gautier-Dagoty (1710-81) further improved the accuracy by adding ink plates. Philibert-Louis Debucourt (1755-1832) and other printmakers also put color printing into practical use using aquatint printing, but it had ceased to exist since around 1830, and was revived by M.
