An Indian linguist from the 6th to 5th centuries BCE. Famous for his Sanskrit etymology (nirukta). Author of the oldest surviving book on etymology, which developed in part due to the difficulty of the Vedic languages. Also considered one of the sources for the Pānini grammar.
