They were hunter-gatherers who lived on Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost island of South America. They called themselves Yamoma. They were also called Canoe Indians because they used bark canoes to travel on the sea. Despite the extreme cold, they lived in simple semi-underground huts and were almost naked except for animal skins. To hunt land animals, they used javelins with stone arrowheads, bolas (slings made of several stones attached to a string), and traps.
