Born: May 23, 1794 in Prague [Died] March 10, 1870. Leipzig. Czech-born pianist, conductor, and composer. After graduating from the Prague Conservatory, he studied in Vienna. After performing in Germany and France, he settled in London, where he was active as a performer and conductor. He was also Mendelssohn's teacher. From 1846 onwards, he served as professor of piano at the Leipzig Conservatory, and composed piano concertos, etudes, chamber music, and more. He is known as the father of modern piano playing.
