Azimuth angle

In a horizontal coordinate system, the azimuth angle is the angle measured along the horizon to a celestial body. More specifically, it is the angle that indicates the direction of the great circle (meridian) that passes through the zenith and the celestial body (star) and the horizon. The azimuth angle (sometimes simply called the direction) can be measured in either the east or west direction from a north or south point on the horizon, but in the Northern Hemisphere, it is most common to measure from the north point eastward.

地平座標系において、地平線に沿って測った天体の方向を示す角をいう。より詳しくいえば、天頂と天体（星）を通る大円（経線）が地平線と交わる点の方向を示す角である。方位角（単に方位ということがある）は、地平線上の北点または南点を起点として、東西いずれの方向へ測ってもよいが、北半球では、北点から東回りに測るのがもっとも普通である。
