As head of production at Gaumont, the second largest film company in France after Pathé, he nurtured almost all of the directors who would go on to shape the history of early French cinema (1910-1925), including Emile Cohl, known as the founder of animation, Jean Durand, Léonce Perret, Henri Fescourt, Léon Poirier, Jacques Fedele, and René Clair, as well as Marcel Lebecq, René Daly, René Navarre, Musidora, and Gina Manès.
