A river that flows south through the center of Gifu Prefecture. It is 166 km long and has a drainage area of 1,985 km2 . It originates from Mt. Dainichi in the Hida Highlands, joins the Yoshida River in Gujo City and the Itadori River in Mino City, and forms an alluvial fan in the Nobi Plain from Gifu City. It runs parallel to the Kiso and Ibi Rivers downstream and flows into Ise Bay. The upstream area is a heavy rain area. In ancient times, the river was prone to flooding due to its turbulent, net-like flow toward the middle reaches of the Ibi River along with the Kiso River, but construction to divert the three rivers was carried out in 1892. From the end of the Middle Ages to the early modern period, it was also a waterway for transporting lumber and other materials from Hida, and river ports developed. A ring-shaped fishing area developed downstream. It is famous for cormorant fishing. There was an opposition movement against the construction of a river mouth dam, but it began operation in 1995. → Related topics Kaizu [town] | Kiso River | Gifu Castle | Satsukimasu | Shiratori [town] | Sunomata [town] | Seki [city] | Nagashima [town] | Nagashima Rebellion | Nobi Ohashi Bridge | Hozumi [town] | Mizuho [city] | Mino [city] | Yamato [town] | Wanouchi [town] Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
