A perennial plant of the lily family, grown in flowerbeds (illustration). The flower stalk reaches up to 1.5m and produces white flowers in a dense raceme, which is often branched into a cone. The specific name ramosus (branched) refers to this characteristic. The perianth has six petals, which are oblong and about 2cm long. They have a purple stripe in the middle. They flower from May to June. All the leaves are rooted, broadly linear, and 60-90cm long. There are globular, swollen roots underground, which are edible in southern Europe, where the plant is native. It is easy to cultivate. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
種小名のramosus(枝分れした)はこの性質にちなむ。
