A former town in Ashikita District, southwest of Kumamoto Prefecture. Facing the Yatsushiro Sea, the Hisatsu Orange Railway runs through the town. There is an electrode manufacturing factory, and citrus cultivation is thriving. There are Koganehama Beach and Umiura Beach. Incorporated into Ashikita Town in January 2005. Area: 32.76 km2 .
