Kenji Takahashi

Kenji Takahashi
Born: August 17, 1871 (Meiji 4) in Sendai
[Died] October 19, 1929. Tokyo archaeologist. Graduated from Tokyo Higher Normal School. Studied under ancient history scholar Miyake Yonekichi, and worked at the Tokyo Imperial Household Museum from 1904, while also helping run the Archaeological Society of Japan (now the Japanese Archaeological Society). He built the foundations for empirical research on the Kofun period and early historical periods, and contributed greatly to the academic world. His main works include "Mirrors, Swords, and Jewel" (1911), "Archaeology" (13), "Kofun and Ancient Culture" (24), "Research on Bronze Hoko and Bronze Swords" (25), and "Takahashi Ken's Collected Works" (72).

考古学者。東京高等師範学校卒業。古代史家三宅米吉に師事し,1904年以来東京帝室博物館に勤め,そのかたわら考古学会 (現日本考古学会) の運営に従った。古墳時代,初期歴史時代の実証的研究の基礎を築き学界に貢献した。主著『鏡と剣と玉』 (1911) ,『考古学』 (13) ,『古墳と上代文化』 (24) ,『銅鉾銅剣の研究』 (25) などのほか『高橋健自集』 (72) がある。
