Japanese: ショウノウ(樟脳) - しょうのう

A bicyclic monoterpene ketone. Found in camphor trees, it is obtained by steam distillation of wood fragments. Currently, it is mainly obtained by synthesis from pinene. It is a colorless, transparent, sublimable plate-like crystal with a distinctive fragrance. Its melting point is 178°C and boiling point is 209°C. In addition to being the raw material for celluloid, it is also used in medicine (where it is called camphor), as an insect repellent, and in fragrances. (Figure)

二環性モノテルペンケトンの一つ。クスノキ中に含まれ，材片を水蒸気蒸留して得られる。現在では，おもにピネンよりの合成で得られている。特異香のある昇華性の無色透明板状晶。融点178℃，沸点209℃。セルロイドの原料であったほか，医療（カンフルと呼ぶ），防虫剤，香料などに使用されている。（図）
