Also written as "Kimonbu". It is an abbreviation of "Shitsuoribe", one of the occupations that followed the weaving style in the pre-Taika era. Shitsu is an ancient Japanese fabric that is said to be made by dyeing the weft of taku, hemp, ramie, etc. in blue or red and weaving irregular patterns, and was written as "Wamon" in contrast to the twill that was introduced from the continent. It was first seen in the 39th year of Emperor Suinin in the "Nihon Shoki", where the Wamonbu is listed among the 10 items bestowed by Prince Inishiki. It was widely distributed in the Kinai, Tokai, Tozan, Hokuriku, Sanin, Sanyo, and Nankai regions. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
