Korean flute / Koma flute - Komabue

Japanese: 高麗笛∥狛笛 - こまぶえ

A type of bamboo flute. In the past, it was also written as "Kureno Yokobue" or "Kureno Yokobue." It is used in the Goryeo music of gagaku, and in Azuma Asobi it is used in place of the Azuma Yubue, which has been abolished. Its structure and playing style are similar to that of the Ryuteki, but it has six finger holes. It is about 36 cm long, with a diameter of just under 1 cm at the tail end, making it thinner and shorter than the Ryuteki. It is wrapped in birch or rattan except for the mouthpiece and finger holes, the inside wall of the tube is lacquered, and the head end is covered with blue brocade. Its range is about two octaves, from D2 sharp to E4 sharp, which is two major tones higher than the Ryuteki.

竹製の横笛の一種。古くは〈籥〉〈伎横笛（くれのよこぶえ）〉とも記された。雅楽の高麗楽に用い，東遊（あずまあそび）では廃絶した東遊笛の代りに使われる。構造や奏法は竜笛に準ずるが，指穴の数は6。長さ約36cm，尾端の口径が1cm弱で，竜笛より細く短い。歌口と指穴の部分を除いて樺巻または籐巻を施し，管の内壁に漆を塗り，頭端に青地錦を張る。音域は2点嬰ニから4点ホまでの約2オクターブで，竜笛より長2度高い。
