Japanese: コマーシャル･ペーパー（英語表記）commercial paper

A short-term, negotiable, unsecured discount bond issued in the open market by large corporations, financial companies, banks, holding companies, etc. to raise working capital. It is abbreviated as CP. It originated in the United States and appeared in the colonial period as a promissory note issued based on commercial transactions, but since the 1920s it has become a simple short-term financial instrument unrelated to commercial transactions, and since the late 1960s it has grown rapidly and is now second only to Treasury bills (TBs) in the short-term financial market (money market). The face value of CP is usually a multiple of $100,000, but the average purchase price is about $2 million.

大企業や金融会社や銀行，持株会社等が運転資本調達のために公開市場で発行する短期の譲渡可能な無担保割引債券。CPと略称する。アメリカで生まれたもので，植民地時代に商取引にもとづいて振り出される約束手形として出現するが，1920年代以降は商取引とは無関係の単なる短期金融手段となり，60年代後半以降急成長をとげて今では短期金融市場(マネー･マーケット)でTB(短期財務省証券)に次ぐ存在となっている。CPの券面額は通常10万ドルの倍数であるが，平均買付額は約200万ドルである。
