Japanese: ウミエラ(海鰓) - ウミエラ（英語表記）sea pen

A species of the family Pennatulidae in the order Pennatulidae, or a general term for coelenterates (cnidarians) in the same family. The sea pen Leiopterus fimbriatus is found south of Ishikari Bay, and stands upright with its stalk stuck into the sandy, muddy bottom at depths of 60 to 730 meters. Most are yellowish-white in color. The body is 10 to 20 cm long, with a square bony shaft in the center, and is divided into a trunk that makes up about two-thirds of the upper part and a stalk below it. The entire trunk is feather-like, with the tip of the stalk tapering, which gives it its English name, resembling the feather pens used in the past.

ウミエラ目ウミエラ科Pennatulidaeの1種，または同科に属する腔腸動物(刺胞動物)の総称。ウミエラLeiopterus fimbriatusは石狩湾以南に分布し，水深60～730mの砂泥底に柄をつきさして直立している。色は黄白色のものが多い。体は長さ10～20cmで，中心に1本の四角状の骨軸があり，上方約2/3の幹部とその下方の柄部とに分けられる。幹部全体が羽毛状で柄部の先端が細くなっているので，昔用いた羽毛のペンに似るところからこの英名がある。
