An internal state that causes an animal to behave aggressively. There are various theories about the origin and nature of aggression, but here we will first discuss it from the perspective of ethology.

Generally, the situations in which animals behave aggressively can be roughly divided into two. One is when another individual approaches, in which case they exhibit threatening aggression. The other is when they find themselves in a situation where their own life is threatened by another individual, in which case they exhibit defensive aggression.

【動物における攻撃性】
　ふつう動物が攻撃的な行動をとる局面は大きく二つに分けることができる。一つは他個体が接近してくるときで，これに対しては威嚇的な攻撃性がみられる。もう一つは他個体によってみずからの生命がおびやかされるような状況に陥ったときで，このときには防衛的な攻撃性がみられる。
