A Chinese dictionary of characters. Compiled by Ruan Yuan of the Qing dynasty. 106 volumes. Completed in 1798 (the third year of the Jiaqing era). A collection of character explanations for classical languages. Characters that appear in books up to the Han dynasty are arranged in the order of Peiwen Yunfu, and those that are not included are supplemented by Guangyun and Jiyun. Character explanations that appear in books on exegesis such as Kyobyoseizoku and Issaijingyinyi from various annotations in the Jingchuanzishi up to the early Tang dynasty are collected and shown along with their sources. In the past, only simple character explanations were available for studying the classics, so Dai Zhen, Sun Yuanru, and others planned and started this book early on, but they were abandoned. When Ruan Yuan was the supervisor of education in Zhejiang, he completed it with the cooperation of several dozen people. It is still of great value today for looking up explanations of classical languages, especially single characters.

中国の字書。清の阮元の編。106巻。嘉慶3（1798）年成立。古典語についての字解を集めたもの。漢代までの書物に出てくる文字を，『佩文韻府』の順に従い，それにないものは『広韻』『集韻』に拠って補い配列し，唐代初期までの経伝子史などに施された諸注から『匡謬正俗（きょうびょうせいぞく）』『一切経音義』など訓詁に関する書に出てくる字解を集め，その出所とともに示してある。古典を研究するために従来は簡単な字解しかなかったので，早く戴震，孫淵如らによって本書が企画，着手されたが挫折していた。それを阮元が浙江の督学であったとき，数十人の協力を得て完成。古典語，特に単字の解説をみるうえで今日でも大きな利用価値をもつ。
