It borders the provinces of Shandong, Henan, Shanxi, and Liaoning, as well as the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In the oldest Chinese geographical book, Yu Gong (a part of the Book of Documents), it is classified as part of the two prefectures of Kyushu, Ji and Yan, but since most of it was in the Jizhou region, it is still sometimes called Ji Province. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Ji Province" are listed below.
