Calcitonin

A peptide hormone. In mammals, it is secreted primarily from the thyroid gland, while in birds, amphibians, and fish, it is secreted from the ultimobranchial gland. It is composed of 32 amino acids, but the amino acid composition varies depending on the animal species. The structures of calcitonin from humans, cows, pigs, salmon, eels, and other animals have been studied. The structure of human calcitonin is shown below (single-letter (see alternative terms) amino acids, the C-terminus is amidated):

It has effects such as lowering serum calcium and phosphate, inhibiting bone resorption, and anti-gastrin effects. It is used to treat Paget's disease, osteoporosis, primary hyperparathyroidism, etc. [CAS 9007-12-9]

ペプチドホルモンの一つ．ほ乳類では主として甲状腺から，鳥類，両生類および魚類などでは鰓(さい)後腺から分泌されている．32個のアミノ酸から構成されるが，動物の種差によりアミノ酸組成は異なる．ヒト，ウシ，ブタ，サケ，ウナギなどのカルシトニンの構造が研究されている．ヒトの構造は次に示す(一文字表記([別用語参照]アミノ酸)，C末端がアミド化されている)．

血清カルシウムとリン酸の低下作用，骨吸収抑制作用，抗ガストリン作用などがある．ぺージェット病，骨粗しょう症，原発性副甲状腺機能亢進症などの治療に用いられている．[CAS 9007-12-9]
