Just before the pons is a collection of nerve cells that give off the trigeminal nerve, the trigeminal ganglion (semilunar ganglion, Gasser's ganglion). The processes toward the pons are all grouped together into one thick nerve trunk, but the processes toward the periphery are grouped together into three large nerves near the trigeminal ganglion. …
