Knife. ※Azuma Kagami - October 13, 1190, Kenkyu 1, "Ai ni fuku kodachi o sake sowari ichi " ② A small sword attached to a kozuka attached to the sheath of a waist sword or katana . 〘名〙① 小さな刀。日常の雑用に用いる小さな刃物。きりだし。ナイフ。※吾妻鏡‐建久元年(1190)一〇月一三日「相副小刀於鮭楚割」② 腰刀や打刀の鞘(さや)にそえた小柄(こづか)に付属する小さな刀。軍中で敵の首をとったり、首札の緒をぬくための穴をあけたりするのに用いた。軍中に差す小柄には上に穴をつけたものと環をつけたものとあり、そこへ差した。裏差(うらざし)。副子(そえご)。※太平記(14C後)三九「編木子(ささらのこ)の如く叩きなしたる太刀の歯本を小刀にて削り直し」
