A medieval samurai who was active mainly in Kawashima Minami Manor, Kazuno County, Yamashiro Province (present-day Kawashima, Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City). It is said that he originated from the Satake clan of the Seiwa Genji. Satake Masayoshi's fifth son, Yoshisue, was slandered and had his land confiscated by Minamoto no Yoritomo, so he went to Kyoto relying on Konoe Motomichi and lived in Kawashima Minami Manor, which was the family's domain. During the time of his son Yoshiyasu, he was appointed to the position of shijo in the manor and took the surname Kawashima (Shima). During the time of the ninth shogun, Yukimasa, he served in battle with Ashikaga Takauji, and in 1336 (Engen 1 | Kenmu 3), he was pensioned half of the manor's lordship position as a land steward. After that, until the mid-16th century, he expanded his economic base by acquiring scattered fields and farmland around the manor. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
