"Kaigen Ritsu Commentary"

…It provides a literal interpretation of each of the 12 chapters and 500 articles (actually 502 articles) of the Tang Code, and questions and answers are provided on the application of articles that may raise doubts, making it the most important book for the study of not only the Tang Dynasty but also the history of Chinese criminal law. This book has been considered to be the Yonghui Code Commentary compiled by Zhangsun Wuji and others in 653 (Yonghui 4), but Niida Sheng and others claim that it is the Kaiyuan Code Commentary compiled by Li Linfu and others in 737 (Kaiyuan 25). Since not only the main text of the Code but also the commentary parts had legal effect, it was rare for the Tang Code to be published in 12 volumes in later generations, and it was passed down in the form of the Tang Code Commentary in 30 volumes, and was included in the official edition published in Japan during the Edo period. …

…《唐律》12編500条(実は502条)の各条にわたって字句の解釈をほどこすとともに，疑義の生じそうな条には適用に関する問答を付していて，唐代のみならず，中国刑法史の研究上もっとも重要な書である。本書は653年(永徽4)に長孫無忌らによって編集された《永徽律疏》とされてきたが，仁井田陞らは737年(開元25)に李林甫らによって編纂された《開元律疏》であると主張した。律の本文のみならず，疏議の部分も法的効力をもっていたので，後世《唐律》12巻の形で出版されることは珍しく，《唐律疏議》30巻の形式で伝えられ，日本でも江戸時代に刊行された〈官版〉のなかに含まれていた。…
