Both are thought to have been written in the late Kamakura period, but their full details are unknown. In the Muromachi period, cookbooks that record cooking techniques, such as the Shijo-ryu Cooking Book, the Buke Chomi Kojitsu (Family Seasonings) and the Knife Records, as well as the Okusa-ke Cooking Book and the Okusa-dono Yori Soden No Kikigaki, appeared in connection with the honzen-style cuisine served to shoguns and other guests, with the establishment of the Shijo-ryu, Okusa-ryu and Shinshi-ryu schools of kitchen knives.
