...A hereditary magistrate of the Edo Shogunate with a residence in Nirayama, Izu Province. For generations they were called Tarozaemon. They are said to have originated from Uno Yorichika, the grandson of Minamoto no Tsunemoto of the Seiwa Genji clan, who lived in Uno, Okunogo, Yamato Province. During the time of the 9th head, Chikanobu, they moved to Egawa, Yatsumakigo, Izu Province, and his son Harunaga was a distinguished member of the Minamoto no Yoritomo uprising. The 16th head, Hidechika, converted to Nichiren, and the 21st head, Hidenobu, changed his surname to Egawa. The 28th head, Hidenaga, was under the command of the Odawara Hojo clan, but had connections with Tokugawa Ieyasu, and was distinguished in the surrender of Nirayama Castle in 1590 (Tensho 18).
