A bright red patch formed by the increase and expansion of immature capillaries. In addition, if the tumors are too large (Kasabach-Merritt syndrome) or if there are multiple tumors, detailed examinations, radiation therapy, and steroid therapy may be required.

　未熟な毛細血管が増加、拡張してできあがる鮮紅色の腫瘤(しゅりゅう)（こぶ）です。最初は小さな赤い斑点（毛細血管の拡張）であったものが、生後1～3カ月にかけて急速に大きくなり、6～12カ月で最大になります。その後、学齢期にかけて徐々に自然に消えてなくなることが多いといわれています。

　ただし、機能的に問題が生じるような眼瞼(がんけん)、鼻腔、口唇、口腔、咽頭周囲、肛門周囲などに発症した場合や出血・潰瘍化を繰り返す場合などは、レーザー治療などを行う必要があります。レーザー治療を行う場合は早めのほうがよいといわれており、専門医に相談する必要があります。

　また、あまりにも巨大な場合（カサバッハ・メリット症候群）や多発する場合には、精密検査や放射線療法、ステロイド療法を必要とすることがあります。
