Liberal League

...They recognized the unification of the British Empire as the most important political issue in the imperialist era, and on that basis they sought to reorganize liberalism and the Liberal Party. They promoted a movement for "national efficiency" centered on national education for training imperial officials, streamlining administration, and the spread of health care by the state. In 1902, they formed an organization called the Liberal League, led by Lord Rosebery, and Sidney Webb, a Fabian, also joined. However, they gradually lost their distinctiveness as a faction, for example by opposing J. Chamberlain's tariff reform along with the party mainstream, and disbanded in 1910 when Lord Rosebery retired as leader of the Liberal League.
