...Many of his works are based on folk songs, and he left behind many works that respond to the basic task of Romanian musical culture: to create a uniquely Romanian music by integrating folk elements with Western music. In addition to composers, there are many internationally renowned Romanian performers, including pianists Clara Haskil (1895-1960), Dinu Lipatti (1917-50), and conductors Constantin Silvestri (1913-69) and Sergiu Celibidache (1912- ).
