…He graduated from the Department of Astrophysics, Faculty of Science, Kyoto Imperial University in 1923, and after working as a lecturer, he became an associate professor in 1924. He obtained his doctorate in 1929 for his research on the atmospheres of Cepheid variable stars (δ Cephei type), and studied in Germany from 1929 to 1931 under FWH Ludendorff (1873-1941) at the Potsdam Astrophysical Observatory and MTF von Laue at the University of Berlin. After returning to Japan, he lectured on astrophysics and celestial mechanics, and his research activities ranged from variable stars to the internal structure of white dwarfs, the theory of the atmospheres of peculiar stars that show emission line spectra, and even the history of Japanese calendar science, commissioned by the Japan Academy. …
