Urine transported from the kidneys through the ureters to the bladder is temporarily stored there and then discharged from the body through the urethra (urination). Normally, the internal sphincter (vesical sphincter) and external sphincter (urethral sphincter) at the beginning of the urethra are contracted to prevent urine from leaking, and the external sphincter can also be controlled voluntarily. Urination is first triggered by the micturition reflex.
