Musée historique (English)

…The Louvre, which was built on these foundations, and other large art museums that represent a country today, are symbols and testimonies of the former prestige of that country (or dynasty, or monarch). The Musée historique, the museum of history at the Palace of Versailles, founded by Louis-Philippe in 1833, has a very strong political and nationalistic character, as indicated by its motto, "For the glory of all of France," and it goes without saying that the "glory of France" referred to here also means "the glory of the House of Bourbon." These collections by the royal and aristocratic families were eventually organized, classified, cataloged, and exhibited in the appropriate manner, transforming them into modern art museums. …
