opéra comique (English spelling)

Japanese: opéra comique(英語表記)operacomique
opéra comique (English spelling)

...The opera seria (serious opera) in Italy and tragedie lyrique (lyric tragedy) in France followed suit, maintaining a high level of formal beauty in the height of classical elegance, while developing in association with the upper and ruling classes of society. In the 18th century and after, opera buffa (meaning clown opera) in Italy, opéra comique (comic opera, later meaning opera with dialogue) in France, ballad opera (popular opera) in England, and Singspiel (musical drama) in Germany emerged as more popular operas, but what they all had in common was a spirit of parody and a reaction against the aristocracy and formality of serious opera and lyric tragedy. In the following 19th century, the grand opera sought to reach unprecedented heights in the scale of the work, the grandiose stage effects, and the serious emotions, while the operetta, which sought to provide a light-hearted and relaxing experience for the common people, emerged.
