The Shilka River originates in the Hentei Mountains in northeastern Mongolia, flows northeast into Russia, and merges with the Ingota River to form the Shilka, a tributary of the Amur River. It is 808 km long. The river basin is a steppe region with many shallows and sandbars, and was a place of nomadic activity. It was in this basin that Genghis Khan was born and established the Mongol Empire and ascended to the throne in 1206. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
