diner (English spelling)

…the most important meal of the day, or a meal with a formal menu, especially the evening meal. Both the English word "dinner" and the French word "dîner" are derived from the Vulgar Latin "disjejunare" (to break the fast). The time of day when dinner is eaten has changed greatly over time.
