...Currently, 65 species of the Nicotiana genus have been discovered, and many of them contain several alkaloids, including nicotine and anabasine. The two species currently cultivated are N. tabacum L. (English name tobacco) (illustration), which contains nicotine as its main alkaloid, and N. rustica L. (English name Aztec tobacco). The latter is only cultivated in limited areas, such as the former Soviet Union, and most cultivated tobacco is the former.
