A traveler from the Ottoman period. Evliya Çelebi was his nickname, and his real name was Mehmet Zillī. He was born in Istanbul as the son of the chief jeweler of the court, served the court as a page, and later became a cavalryman. He loved traveling, and traveled widely for many years, compiling his observations and writing travelogues. His travelogue, known as Evliya Çelebi's Travels, includes descriptions of not only Istanbul and other parts of the Ottoman Empire, but also the surrounding regions as far as Central Europe, making it an unusual masterpiece among Ottoman travel literature, which is lacking in long travelogues.

オスマン帝国時代の旅行家。エウリヤ･チェレビーはあだ名，本名はメフメト･ジッリーMehmet Zillī。宮廷宝石細工師長の子としてイスタンブールに生まれ，小姓として宮廷に仕え，のち騎兵となった。旅行を愛し，多年にわたり広く旅行し，その見聞をまとめて旅行記を著した。《エウリヤ･チェレビー旅行記》の名で知られる彼の旅行記の中には，イスタンブールをはじめとするオスマン帝国領内にとどまらず，中部ヨーロッパにまで至る周辺諸地方に関する記述も含まれ，大部の旅行記に乏しいオスマン朝の紀行文学の中で異色の大作となっている。
