[Died] Tensho 1 (1573). A military commander during the Sengoku period in Yamato. Lord of Yamada Castle in Yamabe County, Yamato Province. He excelled in painting and sculpture, and his posthumous works are well-known, but there is a theory that the name Yamada Doan was used by three generations, and there is no consensus as to who excelled in painting and sculpture. Doan, who is thought to have been the first, is famous for repairing and rebuilding the Great Buddha Hall of Todaiji Temple after it burned down in the battle between the Miyoshi Triumvirate and Matsunaga Hisahide in October 1567 (Eiroku 10).

戦国時代の武将。大和国山辺郡山田城主。絵画，彫刻にすぐれ，その遺作も著名であるが，山田道安という名は3代続いたという説があり，だれが絵画，彫刻にすぐれていたか定説がない。1代目と思われる道安は，永禄 10 (1567) 年 10月三好三人衆と松永久秀の戦いで東大寺大仏殿が炎上すると，大仏を修理し，大仏殿を再建したことで有名。
