Japanese: 名女情比 - めいじょなさけくらべ

A kana zoshi (Japanese folktale). Author unknown. Published in 1680 (Enpo 8). Five volumes. Influenced by the Honcho Jokan (A Record of Women in Court), volumes one through four are a collection of stories about 27 famous Japanese women, but only volume five tells anecdotes about seven courtesans: Tora of Oiso, Yoshino of Rokujo, Yachiyo, Kumoi, Yugiri, Komurasaki, and Yoshino of Shimabara. It is unusual for a story about strict wise women to include courtesans in the list of wise women for the first time. It shows the trends of the time, and can be said to be a precursor to the episodes about famous courtesans seen in Saikaku's Koshoku Ichidai Otoko. [Noda Hisao]

仮名草子。作者不明。1680年(延宝8)刊。5巻。《本朝女鑑》の影響を受けて，巻一から巻四まで日本の名女27名の説話を並べた小説であるが，巻五のみは大磯の虎，六条の吉野，八千代，雲井，夕霧，濃紫，島原の吉野の遊女7名の逸話を述べている。固い賢女物がはじめて遊女を賢女に加えたのはめずらしい。当時の風潮を示すもので，西鶴の《好色一代男》にみられる名妓伝的挿話の前駆ともいえる。【野田寿雄】
