Hadou - What is it?

Japanese:
Hadou - What is it?

A political way carried out by a hegemon through force. It is opposed to the Kingly Way, which governs through benevolence and love. Mencius, a Confucian scholar from the Warring States period in China, made a clear distinction between the Kingly Way and the Hegemonic Way, rejecting the latter. Hegemony means leader. During the Spring and Autumn period, when the Zhou royal family was in decline, powerful feudal lords used the name of the Zhou royal family to boast of their own power. The leader of such lords was called a hegemon. Representatives of this, Duke Huan of Qi and Duke Wen of Jin, were the object of admiration for the feudal lords at the time, but Mencius criticized them as "followers of Zhongni (Confucius), no one speaks ill of Huan and Wen."
