A small cargo ship of the Benzai-zukuri lineage, many of which had a capacity of about 100 to 150 koku. Isaba. ※Wakan Senyoshu (1766), vol. 4, "Tonfuri. Voiced consonant, unreadable. A small boat, a boat with a capacity of 130 koku, or 140 to 150 koku." [Additional note] "Donburi" has the meaning of the sound of throwing something into a well, as in "Shuin," " A sound of throwing two things into a well." The reason "donburi" was used for the noun donburi may be because "donburi" was the Chinese word that corresponds to the adverb donburi, which refers to the sound of throwing something into a well.
