Journey - Dotei

Japanese:
Journey - Dotei

This is the first collection of poems by Takamura Kotaro. It was published by Jojoshisha in October 1914 (Taisho 3). It contains 75 poems and 32 short pieces, from "The Lost Mona Lisa" in 1910 (Meiji 43) to "Autumn Prayer" in 1914. These works were published in Subaru, Zanboa, Shirakaba, Sosaku, and other publications. The structure of the collection was unique for a time when works were arranged chronologically, and it is understood to be an attempt to show the poet's inner formation as it is. In other words, it arranges works from the period when he struggled after returning to Japan and was caught up in the vortex of decadence, to the work in which he met Chieko and sang a prayer for the fulfillment of their love, dramatically unfolding the path of his self-establishment. The first half of the work contains such works as "The Land of Netsuke" and "Father's Face," and is characterized by the intense emotions of youth and twisted criticism of the Japanese culture, while the second half contains such works as "The Path" and "The Soil of May," and is characterized by prayers for reincarnation and admiration for the laws of nature.
