This bridge spans Ichijo-dori Street on the Horikawa River in Kyoto. Throughout the ancient and medieval period, it was the border of Kyoto and known as a place for bridge divination. The name of the bridge comes from the story that when Miyoshi's son, Jozo, received news of his father's death, he hurried back to Kyoto and encountered his father's funeral procession on this bridge. When he lamented, Kiyoyuki briefly revived. There is also a famous story about Watanabe no Tsuna, one of the four heavenly kings of Minamoto no Yorimitsu, cutting off the arm of a demon that had transformed into a beautiful woman on this bridge.
